Abstract: The dissertation consists of three essays which address the perspectives of reciprocity and fit in the causal relationships between people and work. Chapter 2 focuses on the functions of individuals' personality and disentangles the reciprocity between individuals' locus of control and job autonomy in a longitudinal context. Chapter 3 draws attention to individuals' attitudes and explores the causal relations between individuals' affective commitment and income over time. With a framework of corporate social responsibility, Chapter 4 investigates the impact of firm's policy on individuals' work attitudes and behaviors based on a cross-sectional survey and a field experiment. Overall, with multiple data sources and rigorous analytical approaches, the dissertation enriches the understanding of the causality associated with individual differences in the work environment.
